Hi.
CIRCUS.
“The Eye” is complete. Finally. It’s done. It’s out there. It’s a nice bookmark in the story. I’ll come back to it soon. Exclusive info: The next chapter will be titled “6349;FLESHWOUND”
Make of that what you will.
COLD RESET.
Holy gorgonzoly! A Cold Reset update? In MY blog? Well I never!
Get excited, whoever you are who is reading this blog and giving me a steady flow of like 2 views! Cold Reset is back in the machine shop. I just finished a shit ton of line work for a cityscape skyline view that pretty much takes up the entirety of one of the early pages of the second chapter; so I foresee a buttload of shading in my future. But I knew what I signed up for when I started it.
(I really didn’t. I never learn. It’s my curse.)
Anyway, I have a lot of stuff going on outside of comics this week, so it may just interfere with progress. Stay tuned, folk(s).
I just realised the word “folk” can also be a plural. Damn it.
LIFE IN GENERAL.
So, by “lot of stuff”, I mean I have been mega busy. I am moving houses (tomorrow actually) and arranging it has been a nightmare. But things are sorted, kinda, so I’ll get back to you on how that goes. It’s literally just one end of the city to the other, so it’s nothing huge.
I’ve also switched jobs in the past two weeks, which I think I half mentioned before, but I can’t be bothered to check, so I’m telling you again. So that’s also a new thing. Also as you saw above, I’m moving COMICS! From Circus to Cold Reset, oh frabjous day!
That’s all I’ll mention on the Life front.
FILM.
I’ve ventured out with friends and acquaintances several times lately. I saw this and that. You know how it is. Clint Eastwood’s new movie was pretty good, I forgot the name. The Mule! I literally just remembered the name. I also watched Alita: Battle Angel twice, because it’s THAT GOOD. I kept describing it to people as “the movie I didn’t know I’ve been waiting years for”. It’s hard to explain what I mean by that actually. Maybe when Cold Reset (the story of which I thunk up when I was 12/13) progresses a little more, you’ll see what I mean.
Like, Alita has a lot of similarities to Cold Reset. And, I get it 100%, the vibe, the style. Because it’s exactly what I’m going for in my own comic. So Alita speaks to me on an actually mega deep creative level. It was kinda trippy watching it for the first time. Like if a soul mate could take movie form.
TV.
I watched the first season or so of From Dusk Till Dawn on Netflix and really enjoyed it. I loved that each episode is basically an expanded version of each scene from the original movie. I loved seeing the backstory of the Geckos and the additional banter that was missing from the movie. Directors should do that more, I think. Revisit their old classics in TV series form and see what they would change today and maybe work in some of the ideas they couldn’t quite get to work back in the day.
I’ve also been watching Vikings. I think I saw the first season a looong time ago and just never continued the show, but this time I made it to season 3 (so far) and it’s pretty damn good. Great for switching off and working to. But it kinda sucks knowing some of the things that happen further ahead…
MUSIC.
As I shared last post, the new Rotting Christ album has been tearing up my little workspace on repeat and orchestrating my very short walks to and from work. They’re the kind of band whose songs I sort of like here and there but never really looked into in terms of slamming through entire albums but this new one is bangin’.
I’ve been fairly nostalgic with my music apart from RC lately. I’ve spent a lot of time on Ensiferum, just going through From Afar and Unsung Heroes.
Unsung Heroes is underrated as fuck.
I’ve also been in the black metal mood for a few weeks so I’ve been steadily working through this yuge assorted playlist of bands. I was also faced with trying to explain the appeal of black metal (death metal/folk metal/all of it really) recently and I literally couldn’t.
I think I’m just one of those people who loves men screaming into my ears.
And on that note, I leave you with this:
SONG OF THE DAY.
